Who am I
In fact, my true name is Yi-Yu Peng while Ramlinbird is just my pen name.
You might be curious about which kind of bird is Ramlinbird? Actually, Ramlinbird doesn’t exist in the real world, it’s only embodiment of my dream. The world is so beautiful that I can’t help falling in love with her. In my imagination, Ramlinbird could fly over the rivers and oceans, grasslands and forest, clouds and rainbows. And my motto is related tightly to it, that is “I leave no trace of wings in the air, but I am glad I have had my flight”, which is written by a famous Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore.
The culture is even more attractive than nature sometimes. I love literature, especially poetry, and my favorite writer is Tao Yuanming, a Chinese poet who lived in the middle of the Six Dynasties period (c. 220 – 589 CE). I am longing for that kind of idyllic pastoral life of farming and drinking, and regarding it as the best portrayal of “Full of merit, yet poetically, man Dwells on this earth”. In acquisitive society, his following sentences (translated by Arthur Waley) are still very thought-provoking.
I built my hut in a zone of human habitation,
Yet near me there sounds no noise of horse or coach.
Would you know how that is possible?
A heart that is distant creates a wilderness round it.
I also have passion for art. My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption which ranked first in the IMDB, because leading actor’s tanacity and optimism inspire me move forward while facing any hardships. The sentence, “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies”, let me moved so far. Otherwise, I would like to share one light music named The Promise from an Irish-Norwegian duo Secret Garden. I fell in love with it because of one beautiful misunderstanding that I was told the name of this tune is “人生若只如初见” which made my heart come to pass a ripple.
Now, you might consider me as an literary youth who seem so sentimental. However, the truth is that I am an IT engineer who is studying in the domain of natural langue processing, looking forward to making people live better with the help of technology. And thanks to Professor Andrew Ng’s wonderful Machine Learning letures on Coursera, which leaded me into the holy temple of artificial intelligence.
The Nobel physics prize winner Tsung-Dao Lee once told that “The common foundation of science and art is human creativity, and their goals are all to purse the universalism of the truth”. I can’t agree more because I am overwhelmed by their beauty and harmony. Therefore, this blog will be a big book about my life and study. In this space, you can see not only my poems, travels, feelings, but also reviews of algorithms, key concepts, creative thoughts in the field of computer science.
